Gettysburg Battlefield Blast Tournament

Well the ladies of the U9 Academy endured the scorching 97 degree heat, some tough competition and the threat of a torrential downpour to kick off their 2007 season at the Gettysburg Battlefield Blast in Gettysburg, PA. The format of the tournament called for the girls to play 3 twenty minute games to determine the seedings for the full legnth games later in the day and for Sunday. Playing without substitutions for the majority of the day, the girls of both the Blue and White showed tremendous skill, determination, heart and courage to withstand the heat and tough competition, showcasing themselves as outstanding "footballers" and fierce competitors. The second day of the tournament was cancelled due to severe weather.

During the pool play, the Bethesda Blue won 1 game, 1 draw and lost 1 while the Bethesda White won 1 game and lost 2.  All the contests were heated battles and the girls showed their metal and "intestinal fortitude," never giving up and competing every second until the last whistle of each game. Clearly showing their superior individual skills, the girls were clearly the head of their class in their individual pools.

During the Double elimination round, the Bethesda White team took on the White Marsh team in the full length game, and held steady for the first half. But eventually the heat took its toll on the girls as they succumbed to the White Marsh team.

For the Bethesda Blue, their opponent during the elimination round was the the Westminster team. The girls dominated the game from start to finish but could not find the back of the net. Unfortunately with the score tied with seconds left to play, Westminster scored on a desperation goal.

Both teams played outstanding during the tournament, and althought weren't as successful in the won/lost column this tournament, there are great things ahead for both teams this year. There were continual flashes of greatness from all of the girls and things will only get better as the season goes on.

Next game is Labor Day Weekend, The tough OBGC Capital Classic in Olney and Howard County.
